Applications

  • Industrial grade Argon is primarily used in metal fabrication as a welding shielding gas. It is essential for gas metal arc welding (GMAW) and gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) because it enhances arc stability and prevents atmospheric contamination of welding pools.
  • In steelmaking, argon serves two key functions: stirring the molten metal and providing an inert atmosphere. It is also essential in the Argon Oxygen Decarburisation (AOD) process used for stainless steel production.
  • Argon also has applications in window and glass manufacturing, specifically to enhance the thermal insulation of double glazing windows. Additionally, it helps prevent corrosion of tungsten filaments in light bulbs.
